General Electrochemistry

"Electrochemical Methods: Fundamentals and Applications, Second Edition" by Bard &. Faulkner.
This is the book if you want a good theoretical description of the fundamentals of electroanalytical chemistry. It belongs on every serious electrochemist's bookshelf. It may not be easy reading, but only because the material is challenging: It is all well presented. The first edition (1980) lacked some of the exciting, newer topics in electrochemistry (microelectrodes and STM for example) but it can't be beat for the basics! This second edition removes this last complaint!

"Electrochemistry for Chemists, 2nd ed." by Sawyer, Sobkowiak, & Roberts.
Everyone who does electrochemistry should have this book. It contains  the secrets of experimental electrochemistry that were hitherto shared only in dark rooms with those who knew the handshake. It's got a little bit of theory and lots of practical tips. Interestingly, it is the only book amongst these three which deals with reference electrodes in any depth. This second edition updated a classic and was a welcomed addition to my bookshelf.

"Laboratory Techniques in Electroanalytical Chemistry" by Kissinger & Heineman.
This second edition of this compilation updated an already pretty good book. It is not as theoretical as the Bard book, but certainly adequate.  The coverage is quite broad: The book covers microelectrodes, film and modified electrodes, molten salts, electrochemical detection in HPLC, and other varied topics.  Nearly everyone who may be tempted to use electrochemical methods will find something for them here.

"Electrochemical Systems, 3rd ed." by Newman & Thomas-Alyea.
This book is part of the Electrochemical Society series. It is the only book in this section that deals with electrochemistry from a chemical engineers point of view. It is the only one that discusses primary and secondary current distributions. Liquid-junction potentials are dealt with in some depth.
