Electrochemistry on Mars about to begin! The Phoenix Mars lander touched down successfully on May 25, 2008. This lander carries the MECA instrument package that was originally designed for the cancelled Mars Surveyor 2001 project. Now, seven years after its planned deployment, the MECA instrument is in place and ready to go to work, MECA stands for "Microscopy, Electrochemistry, Conductivity Analyzer." Tufts University faculty member Sam Kounaves is on the MECA team. You can get up-to-date information and images on the mission from the Phoenix homepage.
Bob Rodgers RetiresBob is the author of this web site. Although he is retiring from Gamry Instruments, he is not retiring from electrochemistry. He will be continuing his affiliation with Gamry as an unofficial emeritus electrochemist. He will be in the Gamry booth at the upcoming ECS meeting in Phoenix. His retirement should mean that he can pay more attention to keeping this web site updated!
